I finished my fourth semester at Cal today. It was a bizarre semester. A lot of weird things happened, or were happening. I maintained an emo blog, which was good for me. I got too close to the sun and I burned myself, which was also probably good for me. I participated in NaNoWriMo, and got farther than I did last year. I lived with my brother and some friends of his, which was educational if not always pleasant. I mostly kept to myself, to my coding, to my work, to my anime, to my writing, to my room.

Dec 4The Tundra Ultimatum
So, without even checking you can probably guess how successful this year’s National Novel Writing Month endeavor was. That’s right: not. I got farther than I did last year, though, so that’s a plus, I suppose.
But onto bigger fish. Like Tundra of Heroes. I need to finish it this year. That means two or three more chapters to write, roughly, and then a bunch of editing. I don’t have any foolhardy notions like “it must be perfect by January 1st, as I will never work on it again,” but the entirety of it must be firmly within the editing stage. I will write the conclusion. I must.
Oh boy. A bunch of us are participating, which brings me to positive point #1 of NaNoWriMo: doing something fun with other people. Positive point #2 is something like ending up with a messy pile of words, some of them good, most of them trash. That’s about it for the good sides, but that’s all I need right now.
I made it about a third of the way through National Novel Writing Month on my first try, which was last year. I have no idea how things will go this year, but I know I want to give it another shot. In order to do so with a clear conscience, I must finish up Ynthon’s story before November starts—after all, how can I participate in NaNoWriMo when I have better writerly things to be doing with my time?
Huge thanks to everyone who encouraged my participation this year.
I’ll do my best to express my gratitude here.
Nov 2Untitled – Day One
Here’s my first day’s attempt at writing for NaNoWriMo. I will, with Flak’s pressure, continue to post stuff up here every day. I may also update the stuff I put up one day if I come up with more. This attempt only got me 431 words. I need to stay at it longer, it seems.
EDIT: Up to 582.
Hey guys. November—that month I’ve been fighting for four years—happens to be National Novel Writing Month. In the past I’ve goaded others into participating, always sitting out due to “being busy,” but this year will be different. I’m never going to be less busy, and the people who participate in and complete NaNoWriMo do it despite being busy, so I’m participating this year!
I’m not sure what I’ll be writing yet. I’m going to do some brainstorming Saturday, then begin pounding stuff out Sunday. 50k words in 30 days. Won’t you join me?
Alar’s in, KCG is in. C’mon. Let’s do this.
