English 98 was sooo last semester, but many of us have regrouped and are meeting weekly this semester in a sort of unofficial decal. I wrote something and turned it in today; it will be workshopped next week. I have no guarantees regarding its quality.

Second revision of my short story for my short story workshop. This version won’t be workshopped; it’s the ‘final draft’ as far as the class is concerned. It clocks in just under 8000 words. I hope it’s alright—I added a lot of new scenes that I’m not entirely confident about. You be the judge.

Revision of last month’s short story.

It’s substantially longer now, and more polished. Unnecessary details have been omitted and necessary details have been added. Again, things have changed since the writing of the Crystals of Mana. In this draft, I have taken out all references to Guardian Lord/Heir/Throne; there is merely a Lord Tryn who rules Tryn (what was once a province of Libra and is now what Libra was). Mana is explicitly named in this draft, but his name has been changed to Mantha.

This draft is going to a second workshop round next Monday (November 2nd).

Some notes for those familiar with my old work the Hunter Chronicles^[1]: The ninja formerly known as Gem now goes by Loen. The criminal organization formerly known as the Underworld now goes by The Line. Mist is autonomous; the nation of Terra does not exist. Central Libra is replaced by Tryn—the Guardian Lord is the ruler of Tryn, not of Libra^[2]. I’m not going to list all the changes here… just take this as a short story in the HC world, slightly revised. Various plot details of Crystals of Mana, both those written and as of yet unwritten, have been changed, and this takes place about four years after the beginning of that ill-fated journey.

If you’re unfamiliar with HC, ignore everything above and just enjoy what’s below. Crit is welcome, but don’t go out of your way to provide it. This is going to be workshopped by my English 98 class in the next week.

Our freewrite in class this week was a character-building exercise that wasn’t really in a story-esque form, more like a questionnaire. It wasn’t very interesting, so I’m not going to post it here. I signed up for the first workshop date, so my short story is due Thursday. This means you’ll all have something a bit more substantial to read soon, hopefully.

I’ve been a bit ill the past couple days, and have fallen slightly behind on schoolwork, not to mention my hobbies. :\
