You are Quill, a wandering bard in search of inspiration. Endless are the wonders and terrors of the world, and you mean to achieve greatness, whether in documenting and sharing these stories or maybe even participating yourself. It has been a full week's time since you began this venture, and supplies are running low. You were hoping maybe greatness only took a few days at most. Oh well. Also your hair is kind of dirty.

In the distance you can spot an ominous forest to the West, a swift river to the South, and some foreboding hills to the North. Any of these could lead to adventure! Or you could just head back East, to your boring home. Or some sort of hybrid direction!

What shall you do?

Welcome to Quill Quest! When entering commands, please use the quote box; commentary will remain unadorned. And be certain that when giving commands to Quill, or any other character you may gain control of, that you format it correctly.

>Quill: Check inventory
>Quill: Assess threat of marauding bandits
>Quill: Go north, but in a sort of roundaboutish way so it's not totally obvious to anyone who happens to be watching you.

These are all examples of valid commands. Failure to use the correct command syntax will result in the game not registering your command.
If it's something that can be stopped, just try and stop it!

Showering strikes you as an unlikely prospect. Even if were a common practice to pump water from a spout down onto a person, you certainly couldn't afford it. And if by some strange coincidence you could, it would be back at your home and not with you out on the open road.

Perhaps it will rain later though.

You head south to the swift river, where you will no doubt find an abundance of safe drinking water, as well as the sorts of creatures who like to live near safe drinking water. This could be a good spot to resupply, either with a bit of hunting or just refilling your water jug. You could even do some bathing, since taking a shower has proved impossible. As you recall, a few miles from here is a good fishing spot, but you can't remember if it is upstream of downstream. Alas.

Screw this fancy showering and bathing! Being smelly and stinky and dirty is all part of the adventure anyway. Also, can multiple commands be given?

Should I wait until the latest command is drawn before jumping in, then?

Depends on whether you want to get your action in immediately or want to see what the last command yields first.

Making a crude fishing rod should be easy enough. Just need a long, strong wooden pole, some line, a hook or two, and some bait. You of course have none of these things. Would be easy enough to get a branch from a nearby tree, but the other three elude you at the moment. You suppose you could make a hook out of some scrap iron though, if you happen to find any.

Not that this would be a good place to go fishing anyways.

I'm gonna go and wait for someone else to post a command first. Don't want to hog all the brain-space in Quill's head.

You head upstream in hopes that was the direction of the good fishing, but unfortunately the command was overly long so you can't fully process it. Keeping? Keeping what? Darn this adventuring stuff is hard.

At your present pace it'll take you about an hour to get to where the fishing spot should be.

Apparently subject lines have a character limit. Good to know.

Also, this being a more long-term command, it can be interrupted, either permanently or with a minor action interspersed into it. Otherwise the next update will be arriving at whatever is there.

Okay screw this fishing nonsense, it's time to pay atte...um...probably attention. You're quite good at guessing. You notice the beautiful blue sky around you for the first time, and marvel at the wondrous semi-spherical nature of the world crafted by the gods. Everything hits you at once. It's amazing.

You also notice this strange white aura around yourself. Probably an aura of heroism. It's neat, and doesn't make you freak out in the least, but you hope it goes away lest it freak out someone else.

Seriously we need to keep the commands a bit shorter.

Oh glory of glories, the majesty of the universe. With grace and precision our dome-shaped world was lovingly crafted, the masterwork of the gods, and then to be gifted twice over again with the glories of burning Sol and glimmering Luna. May their watchful gaze protect us eternally.

People far more learned and experienced than you long ago divined the secrets of the cosmos. They did so by sailing too close to the end of the ocean. In their hubris, many sailed too close and were swept into the void, some say by vicious void-spawned monstrosities who feast upon stars, others say simple momentum. A few managed to keep their distance and were spared, and centuries later their knowledge lives on.

What still isn't fully understood is if the world simply sits in the void by its very nature, or if it is on top of something unfathomable. Certain obscure cults even claim that the world was once a full sphere, and as punishment for some grave error half the world was destroyed, and now the other half plummets, and will someday arrive at the very nadir of eternity, where we will face unspeakable agonies for the crimes of the ancients.

Needless to say, it's not one of the more popular obscure cults.

As much as you enjoy contemplating the big questions, your calling is somewhat more local. The deeds and legends of mortals like yourself are what you specialize in, or at least someday hope to specialize in. Still, it never hurts to learn a bit of everything.

Oh, and it's a few hours until noon.

Well...you're not really sure what to think. Kind of makes your hand look super weird. To say nothing of your immediate surroundings. Like the clumpy grass. You've read about how the gods would shine with glorious auras of sunshine or rainbows or silvery moonlight when they unveil their true glory, but this looks nothing like the carvings. And you're pretty sure you'd know if you were secretly divine all this time. Your best guess is that you'd have to go do something heroic for it to show off what it can do. And with the lack of people and settlements around, that could prove difficult.
