I like the composition of the fox-girl, though like KCG I'm partial to more clothing. I'm also very excited to see you try to tackle larger scenes. I'm supporting you'll persevere till it reaches completion.
Also, a technical question. How do you render cloth? I seem to have difficulty figuring out how different fabrics should crease and wave. More generally speaking, is there a simple off-hand trick to determine where creases should form and cast shadows?

Hmmm... The simple way would be to determine your light source first. Clothes are my weak point personally, but if I have to think about it, before I figure out shading or anything else, try and figure out how the cold will fold first. Thicker cloths like wool wouldn't have much folds while thinner cloths like silk is loose and wavy and fold like crazy when wind blows. How much crease and wave is determined by how thick the cloth is, which I fail epically on that aspect cause I tend to forget that. After the material is determined, the pose and movement and force determines the wavy-ness of it, where it's the same as before, wool isn't going to fly high or have anything dramatic going on with it cause it's heavy.
As for rendering further, folds are generally triangular blocks from my experiences. So your shading will be mostly inverse or protruding pyramids, I guess once you get the basic pyramid form down, shading becomes slightly less of a pain. also, the place where cloths fold have the most shade because the overlapping reduce the amount of light that can get through.
hope that helps.

I like the soft colours and, as you may have guessed, I like the rendering of your shadows. Thanks for the tip! Maybe I'll try a few test drawings.

heh, wrote cold instead of cloths.
anyway, if you got any more questions, feel free to ask. but you probably have to be a little bit more specific about it.

Finished version:
Ruri's daily life doodles:
Edit: After relearning my inability to complete commissions of any sort and inability to work under pressure back several years ago, I never since had courage for commissions. Currently I'm more confident than before in sketching, nevertheless, on the safe side, I've opened commissions for $3 a piece for half body and $8 a piece for full body. (about $2 an hour averaged up) Hopefully I'll get some work soon.

Re: Doodle
You're mastering the art of fan service well, my friend. Your prices are too damn cheap though. At least bump it up to a solid $5 and a solid $10. That's still far too low, but at least the number feels better. Had I the additional funds at the moment, I'd commission you in a heartbeat.

Re: Doodle
i'm more surprised how Ruri from the wizard's RPG that got beheaded by KCG actually outlives the RPG itself. somehow it became genuine character for me and now actually permanently lives. who'd ever thought.
edit: posted this before, added new sketch on the bottom.
edit 2: preferably, although I'm not striving for points like I did years ago. If you like what I draw, do give my pixiv a click and throw in a rating points for me. I wouldn't ask for 10 star rating or anything, but even 2 or 3 star counts.

Here is where the humorous irony lies. I had it at $15, went down to $10, went down to $8, went down to $5, went down eventually to $3 and still nothing. The reason I can't go any higher than $3 per drawing is because there are still people saying this:
Alar wrote: Had I the additional funds at the moment, I'd commission you in a heartbeat.
When people are still saying this to $3 drawings, how could I possibly go up if $3 is still too much for one of my drawings.
no offense taken. just find it ironic is all.Moreso, my month of disappearance off from DotQ doesn't help.

and the funny thing is that in one of my classes, we watched a video about modern arts and how literally somebody's feces sold for tens of thousands of dollars. a blank white canvas sold for tens of thousands as well. the guy put a basketball inside a water tank and filled it with water and sold it nearly for 2 million. toilet urines taken out and hanged on the wall sold for hundreds of thousands.
the hype for the unreasonable makes me want to beat those con artists who proclaims themselves as artist, and even more to the rich folks bidding and buying it.

Re: Doodle
almost 2 hours ago. i watched a fedex truck ran on top of a man on a bike and stopped on him. he was about 6 feet away from me, also riding a bike. i froze and people far away screamed and called the 911. i ran away with my bike, rode back to my high school. told my old high school teacher what i just saw. after i calmed down, i went back to that street and told the police what happened.
it wasn't fedex's fault, the man was riding too fast and fell onto the street while the truck was turning. i learned later no one saw what happened, and i was the only witness. i suppose today will be an incident and memory that only i will have. i still can't get the scream out of my head.

Re: Doodle
flak. i'm interested in the commission.
i do have something i wonder of though. why did you stop drawing? you were making progress back then. i want to see you draw again, just as i can write and you correct my writing. would you be willing to draw again if i attempted at writing again?

Re: Doodle
I was never pursuing drawing very doggedly. It was just something I enjoyed doing from time to time. Lately, not so much. Though I still need to do the drawings for the latest writing challenge... >_>
But yeah, write bro. Write away. Highly encouraged.
As for the commission, lemme know if you need anything from me at any point.

Re: Doodle
ok. i just got a sketch commission (finally! after 2 years, talk about coincidence right?), i'm working on it right now. though i call it a sketch commission, because it's a commission, i ended up spending hours on it and somehow it went way beyond a sketch into lineart already... well, good chance to practice anyway.

Re: Doodle
apparently the commissioner wanted it to be more "ecchie", what is he looking for when he said that i wonder? thought this was fan-servicy enough as it is.

Re: Doodle
It's fan service-y for anyone with a foot fetish, but hardly ecchi. He probably wanted a panty shot or whatever the kids are into these days. I think it's good as is, but then I didn't commission it.
EDIT: On a side note, I've always found it odd how so many artists are so willing to sell their time and effort for so little money. I dunno.

Because we know we can't ask for any more than that. If everyone else sells for $3 a sketch, you're not getting anywhere for $10 a sketch.
Supply and demand. High demand, yet a even ridiculously higher supply of artist with the weeaboo failure artists-wannabe like myself and a sheer impossibly high amount of godly artist in Japan, shit artists like myself can't match prices with famous celebrities. And yes, artists are celebrities, especially ones like Kishida Meru and such, who is practically an icon and last boss now. And I'm a nobody amongst nobodies, the lowest of the tiers, what more could I do you know?
