Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Narfuz and Dinos from the Future!

I've already been reading it as you know, so I'll just say you should change the title of your novel to "Narfuz and Dinos from the Future!"

Thanks! The waterfall might have appeared after I encountered yours, I'm not sure. I'd forgotten the mention of dinosaurs, but hey, he was just speaking Gaelic.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Thank you. The supernatural scenes are the easiest to write. I kept getting stuck on other crap today, and it took me three different sessions to write 2,443 words: yet another failed attempt at explication, an "I give up scene" in which Dziga explains what I needed to know in bullet point...

It is, but your math is off. If you don't write any more today, you can finish with only 2,286 words per day.

Grrrrrrriiiiiiiiim. The first tragedy made me sad; the second just made me like the story more. I might be a 50% terrible person.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Thanks, and pardon the confusion. Dziga and I are pretty disorganized. I'll post this next scene even though I decided it wasn't going anywhere. (I'm just going to skip ahead and finish it later if I feel like it.) You're not missing out on anything if you don't read it. We made it out of sight of m...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Thanks! I wrote another 2,021 today in less than 3 hours! Might write more! Excitement! :D In the aftermath of the scene, the warriors crowded into my cramped kitchen to let their two previously inactive comrades into the apartment, a middle aged couple wrapped in wires – or perhaps the woman was si...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

A cacophony of spirals pulsed loud enough to drown the world, and spun, spun, spun the weavers had to make this tapestry stretching over the frame that loomed above or below him. There was a vegetable he didn’t recognize on his plate, a psychological tantrum that left him unable to eat for four day...

I hope your current insomnia bout has ended. But if not, you could harness the murderous rage and have someone assassinate the protagonist and inherit their position.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: SAKI

Congratulations! I liked the hypnagogic stuff; you should post more of that if you can stand keeping yourself up. I don't tend to get those until I'm to-the-bone exhausted; or at least, oddly, on a more ordinary night I can't wake myself up enough between them to write them down.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Thanks. Here is more. The hallway never changed in width, height, or shape, but as I walked on for long minutes its character transformed without pattern, as though subversive builders had rebelled against the architect’s instructions but dared not deviate from the floor plan. Lost as usual not only...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Here it is. Attila’s church was definitely just some guy’s apartment, and I had yet to see an altar or cross stitched Bible quote or abstract representation of an iconoclastic deity or anything else that symbolized religious devotion to me. Even my old apartment on the north side of Bruming had had ...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Benton will return shortly and hopefully become a major character since I like him too. Attila is okay but I'm not a fan of him until he gets more spicy (I have ideas about the spice but for some reason the story keeps twisting out under my fingers before I can get to that.) Anyway, here's another A...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

The moral of my story is that I should never have power over anyone because I treat my fictional characters like shit. I didn't post these earlier because (even once I'd written them) I was feeling real demoralized and didn't want to share it with anyone. But as of just now, I like what's happening ...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

I don't know it (of course), but the idea is very similar to Stanislaw Lem's excellent novel "Peace on Earth" (in which half of the protagonist's brain & body become autonomous).

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: SAKI

What about incorporating some pre- and post- dream musings. For instance, "I'm going to think really hard about Babar the elephant while I fall asleep" and then report back about how it goes.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

I was sleep-deprived and demoralized about my novel and didn't write for two days, but today I'm refreshed and trying to catch up as much as I can! This passage below brings me to 8,785 words out of 11,666, so I'm still quite a ways away, but I've written a personal record (for this novel) of (edit:...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Karamazov's Return!

Unfortunately, that was the hardest part about writing Nanowrimo 2010 for me, so I don't really have advice to give. (Actually, my protagonist then was a mindless zombie who had actions done to him.) First person has been working out way better for me, which I didn't expect, but it lacks the kind of...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2012: Flak's ...

Impressively eerie for a story so focused on interrelationships between friends, and the pacing is lovely. Apart from the supernatural elements, I don't see what's so weird and drugged about it.
