Re: Current Events

it's almost like he thinks some wars are better for his public image than others :/ (See also, Libya, Syria)

Re: May book club nominations

I want to read books, and will keep reading them as we keep picking them, probably. I'm much less likely to read YA (which I believe Abarat and sequels are) and also I have no idea what books I want to read. So what I'm saying is, pick some things. I'll read them, and make at least a token effort to...

Re: Tell Flak To Write Things

No, but see, limeblood Karkat is, like, plausible and interesting, and requiring background knowledge. Tyrianblood Karkat is a fairly overdone, stereotyped trope that I think Flak could do something funny with, without a whole lot of background. Also, I dimly remember finding you less amusing in hig...

Do fanfic prompts need to be fandoms you know?

Because I would love to see you write tyrianblood Karkat.

Re: .Q BG: Junot Diaz' The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao

Man, I love Junot Diaz's writing style, but mostly reading this made me want to reread Drown. Admittedly, Junot Diaz spends less time admitting he's a huge nerd in Drown, but I still think he's more suited to short stories.

Re: Wurld of Warcrifts

If you want a low-pop server anyway, you always could roll on Ursin. It's a pvp server, though, so leveling can be kind of nightmarish. Fun fact: many low-level zones are merged on low-pop realms to increase the amount of people you encounter. SOMEONE THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA. Anyway, I think if...

Re: Wurld of Warcrifts

@KCG Mists solo content is way cooler than solo content from previous expansions, which is kind of unfortunate for people who want to limit their costs. @thread I play. I'm in a raiding guild that raids very very slowly, and is theoretically themed around the webcomic Sluggy Freelance. I'm not going...

Re: Book club vote

I've been busy since school started and I'm still trying to finish a book I suspect will take a while, but regardless, if Calvino wins, I'll read him. So much love for Calvino, and so far I've only read excerpts from Invisible Cities.

Re: .Q BG: Ursula K. Le Guin's The Dispossessed

Read the book over the weekend. Overall, glad to have read it; satisfied with the experience. For a book so heavily influenced by when it was written, I thought it aged remarkably well. The choice to tell the story closely from Shevek's perspective meant I could think of the philosophy as part o...

I think the problem here is not so much how Alar actually uses the emotes, as the fact that Alar is Alar. :alar:

Re: Athletics and Such

Is cognac classier than champagne or am I totally wrong? The internet has me leaning toward wrong, but I dunno. *shrug* On topic, I am so bad about exercise lately, but this doesn't have much to do with my ability to conform to societal beauty standards, since I seem to be unable to gain weight exce...

Re: DotQ Book Group - First Book - Decision Thread

I would totally be interested in doing this thing. Also, I nominate Kafka's The Trial because I started it like two years ago and need motivation to finish.

EDIT: Also-also, I really liked The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and didn't really like Lullaby.

It's weird to compare you guys' progress with the progress of my friends from WoW. Apparently Bashiok was right and they are the 1%.

Re: KCG's dreams

I dreamed the other night that I was going to flight school/med school, leaving on a plane from a giant park thing, with the security checkpoints of an airport. All my relatives were there to see me off, only they were scattered throughout the park, so I had to keep moving through the checkpoints tr...

The problem with doing studies on its effects is that marajuana's current legal status makes this somewhat difficult. Nonetheless, around 10 minutes of searching my college's scholarly databases turned up an article titled "Neurophysiological and cognitive effects of smoked marijuana in frequen...

I fail to see any benefit in these fora continuing to exist, doubly so if "motherfucking dreams of the motherfucking quill" is not a valid answer.

Re: TNH's ponytail

A: DSM=Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Illness. It's more or less the standard of what mental illness is, in the US. Of course, what's in it is a political issue as well as scientific, because insurance policy is awesome like that. B: I just forgot a step of my own logic. My apologies. S...

Re: Central Off-Topic Thread

Actual eras of dotq should probably include the "Flak is a loli" era, as it was a major historical event, and spawned much of what the forums are today. But I guess that was before TNH's time.
