A long time ago, before this world was formed, before there was heaven or earth, law or order, dimension, there was Chaos. And there was void. Then Kai��?ban, bane of chaos, came and overthrew the darkness and ruled in light over the void of the universe. But there was no space, no time, nothing. Nothing except Bane. Bane created the elements, the dimensions, he created reality and illusion. He created the Old World, Libra, and mankind.

Men thrived for long ages, but their path was doomed, and one day, the sky blackened and a shadow fell over Libra. Maha had come. A beast whose wings eclipsed the sun, whose breath burned country sides, whose claws rent the towers of man.

Those not burned, not frozen, not crumpled by Maha��?s might, fell mad and slew each other like hungry dogs…

Libra blazed by day and froze at night. Bane��?s creation was going to fail…

But the sky flashed, and white light scoured the darkness, and white fire spread through the fields, and white wings spread against the sky, and a white sword slashed through the shadow…

Some said a guardian angel had come. Some said it was the Creator, Kai��?ban, Chaos’s bane incarnate. Some said it was pure faith, come to strike evil. But some knew better. The few scattered remnants of mankind witnessed a battle of the gods as Maha battled Bane��?s son across the sky. A wing��?d man, wielding shining armor and sword, draped in a cloak of white flame, stepped on the air like ground, and as he struck home, Maha��?s claws tore him down and the two fell from the sky.

A spark of light fell down and struck a man who had been gazing in awe at the battle. Instantly, he was transformed and took on the appearance of the white man. His fellow men named him Mana and made him their leader. Likewise, a flaming spark fell from the sky that night and Maha was reborn among other men, who made him their leader and named him al��?Kai, Son of Chaos. Bane created another plane, the Inferno, the Abyss, the great Pit, and cast al��?Kai in it with his followers and sealed them there for all eternity.

Mana��?s new form ruled Libra and fixed the center of life, bringing it back to its former state for prosperity. Bane smiled upon his creation, created the other worlds, and then went to sleep. But after a long while, men grew weak, as did the replacement gods Bane had left behind. And the Inferno grew stronger with each dead soul sent its way.

History was getting ready to lengthen its books…
