Another week, another bit of writing for my short-story writing class. The prompt was this: one character wants something and tries to get it, and, whether or not they succeed, they also get something they didn’t want. We had ten minutes in class to jot these down, so please forgive the hastiness of the writing:
Irinn looked around suspiciously. No guards at all? This would be easier than he had expected. Stealing into the hillside prison, rescuing the love of his life—it had seemed almost suicidal at first. He’d steeled himself for the worst, but he had kept his hope: his hope that even if he failed, he might be incarcerated by his darling Nell’s side.
After a week of preparation—mostly, mental—he ran the gauntlet.
And now, here he was, in the prison building, bold short-sword in hand, no enemies in sight. He wandered through the corridors, giddy relief gradually taking over his senses.
“Irinn.”
His heart leapt at the sound of her voice.
“Nell!”
He spun around to face her.
“Nell, let’s go home—”
A sword less bold but more efficacious was at his throat. Nell’s green eyes were cold and uncaring. Her prisoner’s rags were bloodstained.
“You know, Irinn. They locked me up here for a reason.”
She snapped her fingers and the torches along the walls were set ablaze. Irinn saw the corpses of guards piled up at the end of the hallway. His eyes widened and they stayed that way.

Short, straight to the point but still a bit descriptive. I kind of like it.
In contrast to me who writes in a very descriptive way, I feel like I’m overdoing it, so it’s still a good read.
Speaking of which, I think I’ve seen you mention your writing before but I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of it. Is it online somewhere?
I planned to do a one-shot novel-ish story of a Touhou-Tsukihime-Kagetsu Tohya mixup, but since I removed myself from the group, it didn’t pull through.
If you want it, I can hand you a copy privately.
Sure, and/or if you ever write anything else, I’d love to see it. :)
You have an email I can use or a contact form?
flak at dotq.org should do it.
I like this one. :3
Thank you, Saki :)
Sent it. Check your mail.
Got it :D

You’re quite good at coming up with good ideas on the spot.
GJ!
@SAKI: yeah yeah
@Karamazov: Heh. Thanks :P Freewrites are fun and they get my juices going; I wonder if I should just start doing them once a day or something and see where I get.
@ghostlightning: thanks! :)
It is good exercise, indeed. As for getting anywhere, that depends on how the writing goes.
