“Staring at the sea / Will she come?”
She stares out at the sea. “It’s bright.” I nod, even though I’m standing behind her. “It’s pretty.” I nod again. “You think so, too.” I nod a third time. She runs her left index finger over the ring. “It’s smiling,” she says, “look, it’s wet.” The wind is strong, and sea spray makes its way through the window. “This pearl will always be at home by this sea.” I nod again. Clouds billow in overhead, propelled by the same fierce wind. A few rays of light peek through the clouds, and I wish she could see them.

I nodded again, and my neck cracked painfully. I still had moments like this, even years after my head-bangin’ rock concert days. She heard me, and turned, concerned. Her foot slipped on the loose rock at the edge, and I watched the ground she could not see coming.
Parody, the highest form of—
I mean, imitation, the highest form of praise.

I can’t tell if she’s blind or severely nearsighted. In any case, she seems to be very gifted at stating the obvious and the speaker seems to be mute.
@SAKI: I was thinking blind but it could be either. Also she’s not stating the obvious—it’s storming and she’s saying that it’s beautiful out. As for the speaker, maybe mute, maybe nothing to say.
Maybe in severe pain from his old neck injury and unwilling to move his jaw muscles.
She didn’t say it was beautiful out. She just said it was pretty. And definitely can be pretty and stormy at the same time.
And isn’t it rude to nod if he knows she can’t see it? Psh.
Oops. That was SAKI. Who didn’t see the autofilled name.
Fixed your name for you, fxautofillfail.
Thanks, trollface.
These comments suggest that Flak has really good friends who don’t want to see him sad and emo, or that this vignette was bathetic.
Either way, I was moved. T_T
@spambot: if you don’t comment on TOH, I’ll be sad and emo. >:)
Omg it’s spambot!
If you don’t comment more in general, I’ll be sad and emo!
I’m with stupid.
