4/28/09 Summer Plans

By Flak | Comments: 4

I won’t be in a cubicle this summer. I’ll be writing.

The last two summers, I spent most of my time at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, doing work which, while very fun, turned out to be quite taxing. This left me with little energy to write, and most of my periods of serious writing came during lulls in the school year. This summer, I’m going to try taking advantage of two months without schoolwork: I’m going to write.

My primary goal is to write as much as I can.

More concrete goals include:
- I will post on this site every day. Some days this might be a short thought, some days a long blog post, some days an update.
- I will finally revise those shorts (Moving Up, Grass, etc.) that need revision.
- I will post (at least) one writing update every week. This might be a chapter of a story, it might be a short story, etc.
- I say “at least” because I might get back in gear with Night Switch, in which case I would have three writing updates every week (2x Night Switch in addition to whatever else).
- I will finish the current Tundra of Heroes story arcs (Tomora Ynthon’s past, Intra Noi’s twilight).

The above are all minima. I don’t yet know what my schedule will be like this summer (I expect to spend a lot of time on busses and in the company of my dear friends), but I’ll be writing whenever I can. I’ll do a bit of web work on the side, but mostly I’ll be writing. I’ll see how much I can do, how far I can go, and I’ll enjoy every step of the way.

Oh.
And I’ll be at the following anime conventions this summer, in case anyone wants to make plans to meet up:

Fanime, in San Jose, May 22-25.
Otakon, in Baltimore, July 17-19.

The rest of the time, I’ll be chilling in and around Berkeley, Californ’.

  1. Sounds like you got a plan, dood. Is the Lab understanding about it?

Also, it is physically conceivable that I could attend a day or so of Otakon, since Baltimore is just a few hours ride from here. Perhaps we should stand adjacent to one another and say words?

  2. To clarify, if I were to go, I would be down there some time Saturday afternoon/evening, and be around for however long on Sunday as required.

  3. I don’t think the lab has any opinions (or any say, for that matter). I finished my work with them in December. I might go back sometime, but there were never plans for that to happen this summer, so things are cool I think?

As for Otakon, sounds awesome. Can’t wait to meet you offline, where you’re allegedly nicer! ^_^
