11/11/07 Tundra of Heroes - Cover
By Flak | Comments: 6Not that it’s gonna be the cover of anything published, but for now it’s sitting comfortably on the Tundra of Heroes page (I totally mistyped that URL as “tundra-of-herpes” -_-;).
Anyway.
(Remember! Green border means click for full! And this won’t be in the art section!)
Sooooo, what we have here is the cast of ToH minus Gyurot (who’da thunk, he’s not important! at all!). Left to right: Tomora Ynthon, Jeuni Huros, Kihara, and the beast-man. They’re not hanging or trying to make themselves taller (though maybe Jeuni would want that); the strings are supposed to be dangling non-humans: some kind of cutouts, or puppets, or something like that. There’re some cardboard cut-outs in the background (clouds, the sun, a flower, a boulder with grass), and a poorly painted backdrop of blue sky. The hardest part of this was drawing Kihara. The second hardest part was drawing the curtains.
I like to think this turned out really well.
Lemme know what you think~
Also, for those into things like that, here’s the super-duper hq version:

I’ll admit, the finished product turned out a bit better than I thought it would. I would suggest more colorz for the dolls, but I suppose making them fairly plain and simple works too. It adds to the “doll” or “cutout” effect. MOAR ARTS!

They’re meant to be grayscale.
I’ve actually been thinking all day about how I need to touch this up. It would look awesome if the cardboard cutouts of “scenery” were casting drop shadows on the “sky” background. I think I’ll do that. Someday.

It’s looking nice, but I would suggest adding more strings to the puppets (like for the arms and such) to get rid of the gallows effect.

Actually …
While they’re not being hanged, the semblance is intentional. It adds a layer of meaning, both to the image and the story, and I like it.
Maybe it’s because I’m pretentious and like to think the story is deep ;)
Thanks for the comment :)
