6/24/07 The Underworld’s Trap - HC Chapter 25

After some debating, Mana follows the dabbler, Ay.

This chapter is a Mana chapter in that there is no Gem; it’s also a Joker chapter in that his thoughts and actions are pretty prominent. He makes a deal with Oberon and continues to be a bit mysterious—even though he seems open and almost obsessed with telling people everything he knows, there’s still a lot he’s not saying…

We learn a bit more about Oberon in that what we’ve already learned is cemented. He is Oberon al’Nai, son of Nai al’Kai (one of Chaos’s children), prince of Atlantis (Nai’s realm). And yeah, that’s about all I’m saying. It’s something you should have been able to figure out from last chapter. Anyway, onto other things.

My Notes (mild spoilers, click to view)

Gem is absent this chapter, presumably escaping Mist.

Mana goes further into Mist, following Ay (who turns out to actually be an agent of the Underworld’s Third Circle), and ends up confronting one of the Underworld’s Architects???a man we’ve seen before, Lord Miles.

Oberon and the Joker discuss some things???the fate of The Eyes (who is now DEAD), Kieku’s objectives, Oberon’s position on the factions, etc… The Joker manages to convince Oberon to help the general effort that includes Mana’s Crystal Hunt, and gives him an order that may seem odd???to head south, crushing the Marauders. Why the Marauders? Are they actually connected to Kieku? What’s the Joker thinking?

And what’s Miles thinking? He’s a pretty odd fellow.

None of this (Ay coming to Mana, Mana meeting Miles) happened in the old COM.

By the way, 25 chapters, 215 pages, 87,339 words. Yay!

Chapter 26 (the last chapter of Part 2) will be released next Sunday. It’s already written.

    Certainly an interesting chapter. Another glimpse into Mana"s power, as well as confirmation of Oberon being weird and old, and probably also a pervert. Ay didn"t really leave much of an impression on me, but I still can"t help but wonder if Miles really wants Gem dead or not, or if he needs him for something else.
